In 1860, Giovanni Panerai opened his workshop and also the first watchmaking school, both in Florence. Panerai's workshop was highly specialised from the outset, and after a few years the brand became a supplier of measurement and precision instruments to the Italian Navy. The fundamental values of Panerai are based on innovation, authenticity, exclusivity, technical excellence and pure Italian design. In 1997, Panerai was acquired by the Richemont Group, and in the following years became a major player in the fine watchmaking market - combining pure Italian design with Swiss watchmaking know-how.
