EDITORIAL
While our esteemed Editor basks in Californian sun on the Monterey Peninsula,
heavy rain is lashing the UK office windows. Please point this out if
you happen to bump into S. Wakefield, Esq. at some opulent Pebble Beach
or Laguna Seca gathering. I'm sure it will go down well.
Meteorologically speaking, this summer is indeed proving classically
British: take the Pageant of Power at the Cholmondeley Estate (no prizes
for guessing which world-famous event the new show aims to emulate).
Our pictures this week reveal - behind the cars, crowds, helicopters
and speedboats - an erratic mix of umbrellas, sunshine, blue skies and
raincoats.
Europe is on holiday but the German marques are as busy as ever: the
new Porsche Cayman S Sport and Audi RS 6 Saloon are hot topics in our
newsletter this week.
Talking of hot, maybe we'll have a glorious Indian summer, right through
to RM Auctions' Automobiles of London sale in Battersea Park on October
29th? Fortunately, our preview of RM's stars cars is more reliable than
our weather forecasts.
Steve Wakefield will be back next week.

Audi
RS 6 Saloon: 572bhp and even quicker than the estate
Back
in April we test-drove the new supercar estate, the Audi RS 6
quattro Avant, and were swept away literally and metaphorically
by its 572bhp (580PS) twin-turbocharged 5.0-litre V10.
Now the saloon version has arrived. read

Portraits of Adventure
Exhibition celebrates Land Rover's 60th
The bad news is that a breathtaking exhibition entitled Portraits of Adventure, held at the Royal Geographical Society in London, ended on August 3rd. The good news, however, is that the 60 photographs from the exhibition appear in a luxurious coffee table book for the ridiculously low price of £25. But more on that later.

Book Review: 'Sports Car Racing In Camera 1970-79'
Rare and unpublished photos from the 70s
"The crowded start of the Spa–Francorchamps 1000Km, and already Jo Siffert and Pedro Rodriguez, in their 917s with the larger 4.9–litre engines, are giving no ground." Yes, there's plenty of this in Paul Parker's latest book. read

This late production "C" (one of only 126 produced)Carrera Coupe was originally sold in Germany, then found its way to Los Angeles, California and then at some point was sold on to a collector in Japan. Imported back to the USA in the Spring of 2006. Driven 1750 miles since that time.
Upon inspection, this car shows all matching numbers on the engine, transmission and all body panels. Floorpan, battery box and longitudinals all original as well, no sign of any accident damage whatsoever. Interior has just been completely retrimmed in leather with the proper corduroy inserts, new headliner also fitted (original German square weave carpet was still so nice, we kept that).
Original options include: Sunroof, Chrome rims (all dated) Talbot side mirrors, VDM steering wheel (restored by Bruce Crawford) and Blaupunkt radio with original speakers.
Also, it is important to note that this car was fitted with the Porsche disc brakes because it was such a late production example.
Accessories added: Hella driving lights, supplemental VDO oil pressure gauge, coco matts and seat belts. Original jack, tools, owners manuals also included. KAM Motorsports of Waterbury, CT, performed a full major service (2007) which included suspension rebuild and new clutch and flywheel.
This Carrera performs flawlessly and starts on the first turn every time, it is tuned to perfection. Original gas heater is in place but is disconnected.
At the moment, this car is perfectly dialed in and needs nothing to be enjoyed.
