EDITORIAL
I'd never be any good at industrial espionage. 'Spygate'? Forget it. I make this comment having had a good, close-up look at the latest F1 cars at last weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed.
It's quite incredible how many twiddly bits (and you can see I have complete command of the technical language, here) are placed in what would appear to be a somewhat random fashion all over the cars.
They must do something, but it's worth noting that when there's the inevitable coming-together, a shower of carbonfibre covers the track — and yet the protagonists carry on at unabated speed.
Back to the Meccano set for me, then.
Goodwood was its usual excellent self, as was the Le Mans Classic, held on the same weekend. Can I appeal to both organisers — and we know it's difficult, chaps, with F1 races and road closures and all that — to try to avoid a clash of dates in 2010?
Anyway, full details of both below, together with our own Mille Miglia in the wonderful Ferrari 612 Scaglietti.
THIS WEEK IN CLASSIC DRIVER
Out of the Blue: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti HGTC
London to Maranello in Ferrari's flagship
The average Ferrari owner is likely to cover around 3000 miles a year. I think we can do better than that, with a two-day trip covering 1000 miles in a 612 Scaglietti. It's just got to be done.

Le Mans Classic 2008
Includes photo-gallery
So, you've imagined tearing down those long straight Sarthe roads with Kate Moss by your side, and you've finally arrived at the Le Mans circuit. Even out of season (ie not the 24 Hours weekend), you'll find that La Belle Dame of motorsport scrubs up pretty well.

The 2008 Goodwood Festival of Speed
Hawthorn to Hamilton: heroes one and all
Britain's Grand Prix ace may have been billed as the star of the show but, for most of the 140,000+ spectators, the cars and a galaxy of veteran drivers shared top billing with McLaren's joint World Championship leader. read

Mercedes AMG has launched a new cannon for the road: the SL 65 AMG Black Series. The immense power and torque of the 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine - 670HP, 1000Nm - is matched by the car's broad, muscular body.

As expected, the 1955 Jaguar D-type 'XKD509' was top-seller at the Goodwood sale, achieving a world record (for the marque) of £2,201,500. Other cars finding new owners included the ultra-rare 1970 Monteverdi.

LIFE
Laguna 760: Silent Cruising
This elegant boat slides across Lake Starnberg in almost complete silence; for the Laguna 760 is electrically powered. While its looks suggest a speedboat along Riva lines, the engine is far from conventional, boasting a high-performance electric motor with an output of 40kW.

This is one of the very last Camargues, first registered in December 1986. It comes complete with a substantial history file, being serviced by Rolls-Royce main agents in its early years and then later on with P&A Wood and then with us at Frank Dale & Stepsons in London.
This is a car we have supplied in the past to one of its previous London-based owners so we are very familiar with this particular examples quality and pedigree. It is fitted with picnic tables comes complete with new dark blue lambswool over rugs, its original handbook, a substantial history file and all of its tools.
This motor car represents the opportunity to acquire an excellent late example of this stylish model created by the Italian Sergio Pininfarina.
