Editorial

An action-packed Classic Inside this week that I hope will set you up for next weekend’s double-header of the Goodwood Festival and the Le Mans Classic, as well as their attendant auctions.

We’ve also got Jan Baedeker’s impressions of driving the flagship Lamborghini, the mighty Murciélago LP640, around the flowing circuit in the Tuscan hills, Mugello (a track I had the privilege to experience from the passenger seat of an Enzo last autumn, and one of the best in the world). The man’s impressed, as you can read below.

There’s new car news from Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar with the German company launching its 2007 CL-Class based on the latest ‘S’, while British rivals Jaguar have released some photographs of the XKR that will debut at the London Motor Show in Docklands next month. A fine looking machine and one I particularly like as a convertible.

And BRABUS have been at it at Nardo again - this time smashing their previous record of 350.2 km/h, with a blistering 362.4 km/h in the appropriately-named ‘Rocket’. Wow.

Until next week,

Steve Wakefield

Ferrari 365GTB/4 ’Daytona’ Competizione Spyder ex-NART Le Mans and Geneva Motor Show

15965 began its life as a standard 1972 European production Daytona, albeit one to the rarer type A specification and air conditioning. In late 1974 Michelotti rebodied it in aluminum for NART to use at Le Mans.

Unusually the car, while intended for a limited racing program, was ultimately meant for road use making it rather unique in its hybrid destiny. Thus it is better suited for public roads than a spartan full blown Daytona Group 4, having for example more insulation than the latter as it has not been stripped as much, yet has less than a production 365GTB/4.
