Editorial

Let’s kick off by wishing Tom Papadopoulos and the Autosport Designs Racing Team all the very best later on today as they debut two Aston Martin DBRS9s in the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT series. As you can read below, it’s been very much a race against time for the just-completed cars from Aston Martin Racing. In the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours, to start on Saturday, the ‘big(ger) boys’ have done well too, 1st and 2nd in class after practice.

What else is in the news this week, now that the Geneva Salon is over? We’ve reports on last weekend’s Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance and yet another wallet-busting auction, plus there’s a preview of the sale of some of the most interesting cars at MG Sport & Racing, and the Monaco supercar extravaganza next month.

There’s also a couple of cars for those amongst you not belonging to the shrinking violet fraternity – the be-winged Gallardo from Hamann and Gemballa’s take on the 997 911. The latter is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Must go, as I write, there’s a 476 HP Mercedes-Benz to be tested - full details next week.

De Tomaso Pantera Group 4/5

FIA Papers, original racing history

One of only 14 examples built with the special Group 4 ‘874A’ type lightweight ‘Allegretto’ chassis for the 1972 World Championship, chassis #2343 was sold new to racing driver Cazzago (Pooky) who raced extensively throughout the season including the 1000 kms of Monza and also entered for Le Mans that year.

In 1973 2343 passed to Moretti and Manfredini of the famed ‘MOMO’ racing team who continued to campaign the car internationally. In 1976, 2343 was up rated to full Group 5 specification - the only Group 4 to be up rated to this specification - weighing only 900 kgs! Following the Giro d’Italia, the car was stored until 2000 upon which a full restoration was embarked upon.

Presented in full Group 5 trim, the Pantera is an awesome and highly eligible entrant for a multitude of prestigious events.
