'HISTORIC FERRARI: Legends of Road and Track 1949 – 1974'

1974 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 - Route du Soleil 1967 Daytona 24 Hours 1964 Targa Florio

With its ‘Art Deco in the Alps’ range of limited-edition fine art travel posters tucked away for the summer season, Pullman Editions has launched an all-new collection: a celebration of the romance and mystique of Ferrari.

Georgina and Simon Khachadourian have commissioned three house artists to produce all-new, large format (97 x 63.5cm or 97 x 65.5cm) posters in the style of the period. They are not copies or reproductions of earlier works — in fact, there is little official Ferrari material available for the aficionado to collect — and there will be just 24 individual pieces, each strictly limited to 280 copies.

The artists, Charles Avalon, Emilio Saluzzi and Dexter Brown, have each created a design which perfectly matches the mood of the era. All but one, the immortal ‘Cavallino Rampante’ by Dexter Brown, represents a year with quintessentially ‘Ferrari’ imagery, redolent of that period.

Most, as you’d expect, carry scenes from the race track. ‘1964 Targa Florio’ by Saluzzi depicts a stylised 246SP and 250GTO racing side-by-side, while Avalon’s ‘1956 Mille Miglia’ shows the route of the famous road race with dramatic broad red, white and green ‘arrows’ symbolising both the direction of travel and the dizzying sense of breakneck speed for which the event is so celebrated.

Dexter Brown, an artist with an unmistakeable style and well known for his automotive studies, contributes such works as ‘1960 Tour de France Automobile’, which has three silver 250GT SWBs fighting wheel-to-wheel, seeming to drive straight at the onlooker.

The new collection was launched at a champagne reception at the gallery on Tuesday, 24 May.

Each poster is signed, numbered and embossed with the Pullman Editions stamp of authenticity. Orders can be made via the website, www.pullmaneditions.com, or in person from the gallery in Chelsea, a five-minute walk from Sloane Square tube station.

All are priced at £395.00, unmounted – although a visit to the Pimlico Road gallery will enable collectors to order bespoke framing.
