Reimagined 70s icon the Casquette has us reaching for our bidding paddles at Only Watch this November

Once again, Bamford Watch Department have collaborated with Girard-Perregaux to create a truly stunning one-off reimagination of the 70s avant-garde Casquette watch. It could be yours at this November’s biennial Only Watch auction.

When originally launched in the 70s, the Casquette looked like it had fallen out of a time machine, with its bright red LED display and quartz movement pushing the rules of traditional watchmaking. The side profile delivered an aerodynamic form with the front facing display resembling a 1980s bedside alarm clock. Working closely with Girard-Perregaux, George Bamford has taken the Casquette back into the future once again.

“Back in the 1970s, the Casquette was produced in a choice of steel, yellow gold-plated metal or Makrolon. This new model is housed in cutting-edge forged carbon, while the case back and push buttons are made of Grade 5 titanium.” Comments Bamford.

“Although some observers may describe the 70s design of this watch as retro, I would argue that the shape of the case and the use of forged carbon make it look decidedly futuristic.”

In a year when Girard-Perregaux celebrate their 230th anniversary, what finer way to look both torwards the future and remember their past with this unique Casquette timepiece.

The 9th edition of Only Watch will take place on November 6th with a selection of fine timepieces available for sale to raise money for research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. As well as supporting a fantastic cause, Only Watch is a fantastic opportunity for watchmakers to have some fun and try out unique styles and finishes. We think you will agree Girard-Perregaux and Bamford Watch Department have set a very high benchmark with the Casquette – Only Watch edition.
